You've been living and training like this since you were 3 or 4 years old?
Yes, everyday. I studied hard in school and in college, but fighting was always the core of my entire life.
I hear that there are many street fights in Brazil. Is that true? Have you got into those trouble?
Many.... But as an adult, it's mainly in words. I got into fist fights when I was a kid. I controlled everything once I grew up because I knew that my
abilities would really hurt someone.
Did you participate in any other sports? Soccer is very big in Brazil,
right?
Never. I never cared about playing with balls. Soccer is big, but all my close friends were marital artists. Again, this was natural because my friends came to learn karate at my dad's place. The dojo was like our playground, and we had so much fun.
But you will go to the big Brazilian Carnivals with your friends?
No, I never liked the Carnivals because they make loud noises. I sleep very early around 9 or 9:30pm and wake up around 5am. I never change this routine cycle, so parties like that interfere with my life style.
Which fighters do you respect the most in the fighting industry right
now?
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Sakuraba are my two favorites.
Do you have anybody in particular that you want to fight against?
Anybody Mr. Inoki tells me to fight against. I'm not in the position to decide who I want to go against, but I'm ready and will fight anybody, any time, any where in any style, and under any rules.
I see that you are a complete all round fighter. What is your motto in life?
My grandfather used to tell me this and became my motto. "One step ahead may be darkness, and you don't know what's ahead. So live the right way and live your life strong. Never forget to try, do your best at all times."
